IFS - Internal Family Systems
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a gentle and empowering approach to therapy that sees each of us as made up of many different parts — like inner voices or aspects of our personality — each with its own feelings, needs, and roles. Some parts carry pain or try to protect us in ways that can feel stuck or overwhelming. IFS helps us get to know these parts with compassion, and gently supports healing where it’s needed. At the heart of this work is the Self — a calm, curious, and wise presence within each of us that can lead our inner system with care. The Self doesn’t just guide — it also has the capacity to help our wounded parts feel seen, safe, and supported enough to heal. No Bad Parts — A New Way of Seeing Ourselves
One of the most healing ideas in Internal Family Systems is simple but profound: there are no bad parts. The emotions, patterns, or behaviours we dislike in ourselves—the critic, the pleaser, the part that shuts down or overreacts—are not our enemies. They are protectors, doing their best to keep us safe from old pain. Beneath every protective part is a wounded part that once felt too much—fear, shame, loss—and needed protection. When we meet these parts with curiosity instead of judgment, something shifts. Inner conflict softens. We begin to feel compassion for ourselves, even for the parts we once wanted to hide or fix. And as this understanding grows inside us, it changes how we see others too. We start to recognize that everyone has parts—everyone carries wounds and protective patterns. From this place of shared humanity, healing becomes something we can do together, not just alone. What I like about IFS:
IFS Intuitive Drawing
IFS Intuitive Drawing fosters a creative way of working with parts by inviting them to express themselves on a paper. Devised by Ruth Culver, it combines the IFS protocol with intuitive mark-making, using pastel crayons on paper. ...Find our more Affordable IFS sessions
